Giving Thanks!

Just a quick note sharing a couple of things which we are praising God for right now!

1 – Before embarking on a brand new cultural experience, we enjoyed a familiar one here in Pella this past weekend – Tulip Time!  The weather was most accommodating, the food was delicious and abundant, and there were some beautiful tulips to admire yet.  We are thankful for family time as we klomped around town together.

2 – We have already made friends in Nairobi!  In January, friends introduced us (via email and the like) to a family serving there with AIM. They have four sons, also homeschool, and have been in Kenya since July 2015. It has been a delight to get to know the Blohm family a bit through my messages back and forth with EJ, and she has patiently and thoroughly answered what probably feels like millions of my questions!

3 – We have plane tickets!  Our official departure date is July 7th, which is only 59 days away!

4 – On May 1st, Ryan had a few minutes to talk about Bridgeworld College and our trip in general during the morning worship service at our church, Faith CRC in Pella.  This led to some new and encouraging conversations with various church family and friends in the following days, and we are so thankful for the ways Faith Church continues to come alongside of us.  We have put out calendar pages of each month we will be away, and asked church members to sign up for specific days to pray for our family and our work in Nairobi.  We will take a copy with us so we can pray specifically for these members on those days as well!  It is exciting to feel so tangibly that we are not “on our own” in this endeavor. Furthermore, the offering that morning went towards our budget goal, and we praise God for providing abundantly more than we could have imagined! (As He does, Ephesians 3:20 😉 )

  1. Thanks for the update. It’s all coming so quickly now. Praying for excitement, patience and provision as you prepare, trusting that God with provide in so many ways.

  2. Pastor Ryan, Jody and family,

Thanks for sharing how things are progressing for your departure to Kenya. God does work in amazing ways in our lives and what a blessing to be able to reflect or look back and acknowledge His guiding hand. It grows a deeper faith and promotes praise and adoration to our Lord God Almighty. We continue to lift you up in prayer.

What a sharp looking Dutch family! It was a lovely 3 days with excellent weather, food, activity and enthusiasm. Glad you enjoyed it.

A belated Happy Mother’s Day Jody 🙂 You are a dear, wonderful Mother.

In His Service, Gloria Van Zee
